How To Use De'Longhi Ecodecalk Descaler
Share
To keep your De’Longhi coffee machine in peak condition, it’s essential to regularly descale it to remove mineral buildup. De'Longhi’s EcoDecalk 200ml solution is designed specifically for this purpose and is simple to use. Here’s a step-by-step guide to descaling your machine with EcoDecalk. Note that some specific instructions may vary depending on the model, so always refer to your machine’s manual.
Step 1: Prepare the Machine and Solution
- Ensure the Machine is Empty: Before beginning, make sure there are no coffee grounds or pods inside the machine, and that the drip tray and water tank are empty.
- Mix the Solution: Pour the entire 200ml bottle of EcoDecalk into the water tank. This solution is concentrated, so it should be diluted with fresh water according to the instructions (typically, you’ll add about one liter of water).
Step 2: Activate the Descaling Program
- Start the Descaling Cycle: Many De’Longhi coffee machines come with an automatic descaling program. To activate it, turn on your machine and find the descaling mode on the control panel (it’s often symbolized with a drop or descale icon). If your machine doesn’t have a dedicated descaling button, consult the manual for specific button combinations.
- Place a Container Under the Spout: Position a large container (about one liter capacity) under the coffee spout to collect the descaling solution as it runs through the machine.
Step 3: Begin the Descale Process
- Run the Solution Through the Machine: Start the descaling cycle by pressing the descale button or combination for your model. The solution will be pumped through the internal system, removing limescale and mineral deposits.
- Pause Mid-Cycle (if necessary): Depending on your machine, you may need to pause midway through to allow the descaling solution to settle inside the machine. This helps with the removal of more stubborn deposits. Most machines will automatically pause if this step is required.
Step 4: Rinse the Machine
- Rinse the Water Tank: Once the descaling cycle is complete, remove any leftover solution from the water tank. Rinse it thoroughly to ensure no EcoDecalk solution remains.
- Refill with Clean Water: Fill the water tank with fresh, cold water.
- Run a Rinse Cycle: Place the container back under the coffee spout, then initiate a rinse cycle by running the machine without any coffee grounds or pods. Repeat this step once or twice to ensure any residue of the descaling solution is completely flushed out. This is essential to prevent any lingering taste in your coffee.
Step 5: Final Clean-Up and Maintenance
- Clean the Parts: Empty and clean the drip tray and the container used during descaling. Wipe down any accessible areas to keep your machine looking fresh.
- Reset the Descaling Indicator (if applicable): Some De’Longhi models have a descale indicator light. After completing the descaling process, reset this light by following the instructions in the user manual.
Step 6: Enjoy a Clean Machine
Once you’ve completed these steps, your De’Longhi machine is ready for use! Regular descaling every month, depending on water hardness in your area, will keep your coffee tasting fresh and extend the life of your machine.
